Now you need some clubs, no more than 14, which is the limitation set by golfing rules. You'll need woods (for teeing off), irons (for fairway and sand play) and a putter for the greens. A new type of club called a hybrid combines the straight hitting of irons with the higher loft of the woods. You'll also need a tee, which is made of wood or plastic and is pushed into the ground. You place your ball on it and take your swing. It's helpful to have ball markers to mark the position of your ball when someone else needs to take a shot. Gloves help you to maintain a firm grip on your clubs, unless or course, you really do want to throw it in the water hazard. You usually only need a glove on one hand, a left-handed glove for a right-handed player and visa versa. Other tools exist to make your golf experience comfortable. There are ball retrievers, which scoops your golf ball off the grass or from the cup. Range finders help you determine how far you are from the hole. As you're starting to realize, you'll need something to carry all this stuff. Golf bags are made of nylon or leather and have plenty of pockets to store balls and tees. A handy strap allows you to carry your gear from hole to hole and retractable legs allow the bag to sit upright. |
