Golf carts
While golf has sometimes been called “A good walk spoiled” by those who struggle with the game, there's nothing like jetting around the course in a golf cart. Carts usually carry two to four golfers and their clubs. Electric golf carts were the first-mass produced electric vehicles for private consumer use. In 1951, Merle Williams and his Long Beach-based Marketeer Company began the production of electric golf carts. Marketeer was soon joined by Lektro, E-Z-Go, Cushman, Club Car, Taylor -Dunn and Harley Davidson in producing electric golf carts.
In 1971, the gas-powered golf cart began production. In some communities, golf carts are used as a major source of transportation to cut back on pollutants and noise and for safety reasons. Paths are often built in these communities to accommodate golf carts. Peachtree City, Ga., has miles of golf cart paths that link the city together.
Along with the rising popularity of golf carts, the number of golf cart-related injuries has increased significantly over the last decade. Approximately 30 percent of golf-cart related injuries involve children under the age of 16. So it's important to be safe and teach safe driving as well.
Almost every golf course gives you the option of renting a cart. Not only will it save wear and tear on your legs over the course of a 9 or 18-hole day, but a cart can help you zip through your round with plenty of time to enjoy a cold one in the clubhouse or get back to work in time.
